The OPT 4 Green Youth Conservation board is dedicated to improving our environment, and living conditions to create a better tomorrow. Our goal is that every person in the nation reduce their carbon foot-print, and begin to think that what they do today can affect the world for millions of years.
It’s not just about pop cans:
Earlier this year the
Pop cans are a starting point to reducing our carbon foot-print, but they are not the only way we can reduce our carbon emissions.
Our first project for this year was to raise awareness about recycling computers, and computer equipment. A little known fact is that electronic equipment is less than 15% of all waste produced, but it results in nearly 79% of all toxic waste. The good news though is that we can prevent all of this waste by recycling our computers, batteries, iPods, electronic toys, and other electronic equipment. One problem however is that many people don’t know where to recycle their used equipment; that’s where we come in. Participants in the OPT 4 Green Youth conservation board have the opportunity to do service projects like finding out where computer recycling bins can be found, what affect on the environment plastic bags have, and many other subjects.
Spread the word:
We hope that our work can make a difference, and it starts with informing others about what we do to the environment in everyday life. Our goal is that you can find any information that you need about improving our environment on our website, as well as what role regular people have in improving our environment. So get involved and help to better your community, maybe you can even help us better the entire world! All it takes is for you to tell your friends about our website.
A Letter from one of our Advisers:
We are looking for new members. If you are interested in getting involved in any way please sign on. We would love to hear from you. E-mail us at soakley@latta.k12.ok.us or opt4green@rocketmail.com if you have questions about starting your own club. We congratulate the young people involved for taking a step forward in the direction of a new environment.

Some day the children in your school will be running our country. It is the school's responsibility to help prepare kids for their future. In the past years America's elementary education system has fallen behind countries like Japan, and Switzerland. Our hope is that the O.P.T 4 green youth Conservation Board can inspire them to do well.
Instead of students just working for a grade, they will now see their efforts reflected to them in their communities. The O.P.T 4 green youth Conservation Board is a huge community service project. We take in students looking for Boy Scout badges, 4-H students looking to complete environmental projects and reports, and high school students interested in getting community service hours for their resume. We use these people to help us better our communities through projects like "e-waste", and "DTV 2009".
The Board was intended for students in High School, but it can be used in any form of education. It is only by looking at new possibilities that we can change the world for the better.
We hope that schools will begin to see the benefits of implementing a program that gives students a goal that they set to work toward. Any school interested in starting up the board in their area can contact us at opt4green@rocketmail.com.... We will share with you our goals, examples of past projects, and ideas for future ones.
Sincerly,
Lashun Oakley, Austin Evans and the rest of the O.P.T 4 Green team.
